SUMMARY:Coffee & The Constitution: Lecture 7
DESCRIPTION:Secession and Civil War \nThe South’s justification for secession was based on an erroneous reading of the Constitution. Whereas the South claimed a legal right to secede\, Lincoln opposed what he called an illegal insurrection and sought to secure a “new birth of freedom” in America. \nThis lecture is part of a free online course produced by Hillsdale College. Previous lectures and study guides can be viewed on the Hillsdale College website here.

SUMMARY:Coffee & The Constitution: Lecture 6
DESCRIPTION:Slavery and the Roots of the Secession Crisis \n\n\n\nContrary to the Founders’ guiding principle of equality and their hopes for eventual abolition\, slavery not only survived but spread and became entrenched in the South. Subsequently\, a new ideology arose in defense of slavery\, which rejected the principles of the Founding and fueled the sectional crisis that led to the Civil War. \n\n\n\nThis lecture is part of a free online course produced by Hillsdale College. Previous lectures and study guides can be viewed on the Hillsdale College website here.

The presentation will examine several of them. They fall into various categories: facts\, myths\, propaganda\, poetry\, and some actual history. \n\n\n\nPizza and refreshments served.
