First Amendment Seminar

October 9, 2022 @ 1:30 pm

Friends of Liberty is pleased to host Professor Sarah Ludington and some of her students from Duke Law’s First Amendment Clinic.

The First Amendment of our Constitution guarantees certain rights for citizens, including the right of free speech, but not all speech is protected. This event will address some hot button issues, including:

• The founders’ intention and purpose of the First Amendment
• What speech is protected? How are “public figures” defined?
• Are citizens protected from censorship on social media?
• Supreme Court cases that impacted First Amendment rights
• Recent examples of alleged government violations of our First Amendment rights

Join us under the pavilion at Shelter Cove Community Park (behind Kroger) for a real treat on Sunday, October 9, at 1:30pm.

Professor Ludington is a respected scholar in the fields of free speech and privacy law, and is a clinical professor of law and Director of the First Amendment Clinic. She has also taught courses in constitutional law, information privacy, and civil procedure. In addition, Senator Tom Davis will discuss the two local ballot questions on 1% sales taxes for green space purchases.

No RSVP required, but bring a chair & your curious mind, rain or shine.
